We’re expanding our engineering team and seeking a Design Engineer to help lead system design, integration, and documentation efforts for our Building Automation and Control Systems (BAS) projects. This is a client-facing position, working directly with contractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders to deliver world-class smart building solutions.

Key Responsibilities
System Design & Architecture
- Design integrated HVAC, lighting, and building automation systems from concept through completion.
- Develop system schematics, control sequences, panel layouts, and network diagrams.
- Select and configure hardware (controllers, relays, gateways, sensors) and software (PLC, BMS, HMI).
- Collaborate with sales engineers, project managers, field engineers, and contractors to ensure designs meet specifications and performance goals.
Engineering Documentation
Engineering Documentation
- Create and maintain Bill of Materials (BOMs), wiring diagrams, and detailed submittal packages.
- Develop accurate design drawings and submittals for installation and commissioning teams.
- Maintain document version control through Smartcon’s project management systems.
Integration & Development
- Define and implement system interfaces across HVAC, lighting, access control, guestroom management, and IoT platforms.
- Support software configuration and integration for PLC, SCADA, and BMS systems.
- Participate in testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of control systems.
Project Engineering Support
- Act as a technical liaison with clients, providing engineering expertise and responsive communication.
- Support project managers and field engineers throughout the project lifecycle—from concept to commissioning.
- Participate in design reviews, technical meetings, and quality control evaluations.
- Ensure all installed systems perform to design intent and deliver measurable results.
Compliance & Standards
- Comply with all local and national electrical and building codes.
- Uphold best practices for system safety, cybersecurity, and energy efficiency in all designs.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience designing or integrating Building Automation, Controls, or HVAC systems.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical or SolidWorks Electrical for design and documentation.
- Strong working knowledge of PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Honeywell, Schneider) and SCADA/BMS platforms.
- Familiarity with communication protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, MQTT, and Niagara Framework.
- Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively with clients, field teams, and cross-functional project stakeholders.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in energy management, HVAC automation, lighting controls, or sustainability-driven projects.
- Familiarity with BACnet, Modbus, MQTT, Niagara, LoRaWAN, or other open communication protocols.
- Hands-on experience with Lutron MyRoom, Lutron HomeWorks, or Crestron systems a plus.
- Working knowledge of cybersecurity principles in control networks.
- Familiarity with IoT networks, cloud-based analytics, and smart building architectures.
- PMP certification or project management experience is a plus.
- Experience with integration tools and platforms such as Schneider EcoStruxure, Honeywell Niagara, Control4, Telkonet, Inncom, Verdant, Interel, or NeuroCore a plus.

Compensation Range: $75,000 – $85,000 annually
